Our plan for a better, sustainable future together.

Since 2004, THG has been revolutionising how brands connect with consumers. Today, we drive the global growth of some of the world’s best-known brands. THG x Planet Earth is our Group strategy for a better, more sustainable future.

We are pledging to use our global scale, our world-class talent and our dedication to innovation, to act as a force for good.

Guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, our plan focuses on three key priorities.

1. Protecting Climate and Nature
2. Strengthening Our Supply Chain and Circularity
3. Empowering People and Communities

Each priority is built on a foundation of solid business fundamentals: protecting data and privacy, maintaining worker health and safety, and ensuring product quality and safety.

We have set ambitious goals under the key priorities, that we aim to achieve by 2030. For each of these goals, we have set specific targets focused on driving positive change in our business, supply chains, communities and for the planet.

THG Eco is the powering force driving our progress towards our targets, bringing innovative solutions to some of the planet’s most significant environmental issues. At the heart of the strategy, and of everything we do at THG is our vision: to leave the world a better place than we found it.

We report the progress against our 2030 Sustainability Strategy in our annual report.  Read the latest update here.

THG x Planet Earth. Sharing our sustainability vision: To act as a force for good in leaving the world a better place than we found it.

Our sustainability
vision

“To act as a force for good in leaving the world a better place than we found it, by using our scale, our partnerships, our access to capital and our unique capacity for innovation to promote and embed sustainability into everything we do.”

A key priority for THG is protecting climate and nature. We plan to leave the world a better place than we found it.

Protecting climate and nature

We plan to leave the world a better place than we found it. A code red alert has signalled to the world that action needs to be accelerated to protect the planet’s climate and natural ecosystems.

And we need to act fast.

We have committed to setting Science Based Targets in line with a 1.5°C future by the end of 2040, aligning with the UK Government’s target for net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and the Paris Climate Agreement to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 °C.

In the meantime, we have taken immediate climate action by procuring renewable electricity and investing into on-site solar panels across our sites to help reduce our operational carbon emissions.

  • Climate

Operate net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) across our operations.

  • Nature

Have a positive impact to biodiversity and nature ecosystems across our own brands.

  • Water

Use water sustainably in high water impact areas of our value chain.

These goals relate to the following SDGs:

Our Sustainability goals relate to SDG 13 Climate Action
Our Sustainability goals relate to SDG 14 Life below Water
Our Sustainability goals relate to SDG 15 Life on Land

To protect the planet as we know it, and to restore its valuable natural resources, we will take a stand against deforestation, avoid wasting water and use renewable energy for 100% of our operations.

We believe the climate crisis can only be solved through collaboration and sharing expertise. We are inviting all our customers, suppliers and THG Ingenuity partners to pledge their own commitments and join our THG x Planet Earth partnership.

We owe it to our customers to reinvent online retail for the better. That is why we have introduced initiatives like eco deliveries. And why we will continue to keep bringing in new, sustainable solutions to help customers reduce their environmental impact when they shop with our brands.

Another key priority for THG is Strengthening our Supply Chain and Circularity.

Strengthening our supply chain and circularity

We take responsibility very seriously. For the lifecycle of everything we produce and for the livelihoods of every person affected by our business. We have a duty to ensure our supply chain is responsible, ethical and does not adversely affect other people or the planet.

We review our Modern Slavery Statement annually. The statement details the steps we take to assess and prevent, to the extent possible, slavery and human trafficking occurring in any part of our business or supply chains.

Our commitment is demonstrated not only through our Anti-Slavery Policy but also by our membership of Sedex, one of the world’s leading ethical trade membership organisations. Through Sedex, we engage with our suppliers to review and audit their environmental and ethical performance, ensuring that responsible practices are being upheld throughout our supply chain.

  • Responsible Supply Chain

Protect human rights and work to eliminate modern slavery in our supply chain.

  • Circularity

Transform all of our waste into resources for our value chain.

These goals relate to the following SDGs:

Our Sustainability goals relate to SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth Sustainability goals relate to SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production
Our Sustainability goals relate to SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production

We know that Planet Earth can’t afford unlimited resources. So, we have wasted no time in developing closed-loop solutions to reduce, recycle or repurpose any and all of the waste we generate.

We have already been reducing the amount of plastic we use, and increased our in-house recycling capabilities. As a member of the UK’s Plastic Pact, we will continue to support innovation and encourage our customers and suppliers to reduce their landfill waste and support a circular economy.

Another key priority for THG is Empowering People and Communities.

Empowering people and communities

Our people are our greatest asset. We nurture world-class talent from all over the globe and create life-changing career opportunities. We are incredibly proud to be named one of The UK’s 25 Best Big Companies to Work For 2021. And as we continue to build the skills of the future, we are driving progression at an exceptional rate.

Since we started up in the North West of England, our ambitious employees have been pushing the boundaries of innovation to become the global influence we are today. We know that a diverse, inclusive and supportive environment brings out the best in people. That is why we are tackling inequality throughout our workforce, supply chain and in our communities.

It is imperative that our people and communities feel empowered to make a positive difference in the world. We will urge others to join us in creating a level playing field and fair wages for ambitious and innovative talent, regardless of gender, ability or ethnicity. We will spend time and energy to support people who need our help. And we will invest our expertise to eradicate digital inequality and provide people with the skills they need to excel.

  • Employee Wellbeing and Development

Create a workplace culture which brings out the best in all.

  • Employee Wellbeing and Development

Promote policies and practices that are inclusive for all at THG.

  • Investing in Our Communities

Support our communities and lead initiatives to teach tech and life skills.

These goals relate to the following SDGs:

Our Sustainability goals relate to SDG 4 Quality Education
Our Sustainability goals relate to SDG 5 Gender Equality
Our Sustainability goals relate to SDG 10 Reduce Inequalities

We have always been passionate about supporting our local and global communities, providing sustainable employment and helping communities to not only be resilient, but also to thrive. Throughout the year, our individual THG brands support a variety of charities and good causes and we are proud to be making a positive difference to people and communities all over the world.

THG Eco

THG Eco is powering us towards our sustainability targets. But we know that real impact needs collaborative and coordinated action between governments, organisations, businesses and individuals. That is why we are leveraging our scale to accelerate change for others.

Through our THG Eco initiatives, Recycle Me, (more:trees) and our in-house recycling services, we are making it easier for people, businesses and organisations to make a big, collective difference to the planet.
